Forestry Mulching and Land Clearing in Indian River County, FL: Vero Beach, Sebastian, Fellsmere

Indian River County is slash pine and palmetto flatwoods on the platted lots west of Vero Beach, coastal scrub on the ridge, and dead citrus going to pepper from Fellsmere to Blue Cypress Lake. Our Punta Gorda crew comes across on SR 70 and SR 60, about 150 miles, so transport is a quoted line and the skid steer mulcher is $2,600 a day plus it. Forestry mulching

Forestry Mulching in Indian River County: Flatwoods, Scrub and Grove Edges

Forestry mulching handles most land clearing in Indian River County because the county permit wants native pines kept and no platted lot gets a burn pile. The mulcher grinds saw palmetto, gallberry, wax myrtle and young slash pine into a mulch mat about three inches deep and leaves the palmetto root mat in the sand, so a bush hog alone fails; the fans are back in a month. Brazilian pepper gets cut-stump treatment within minutes of the cut. Greening took the oranges and left the trees to us; those get pushed, not mulched. Our mulching services reclaim overgrown land.

Services

Land Clearing Services Available in Indian River County

Professional land clearing services across Indian River County, a county lot or 40 acres of dead grove off CR 512, residential and commercial.

  • Forestry mulching of pine and hardwood regrowth at the grove edge, roots kept.
  • Lot clearing and site prep for the slab, drive and drain field west of I-95.
  • Brush clearing and underbrushing under the pines you keep.
  • Selective clearing: pepper out, slash pine and cabbage palm kept.
  • Grove removal: dead trees pushed and root raked, $170 an hour.
  • Tree removal and stumps ground at $4.50 an inch, $150 minimum.
  • Not our work services: pond excavation, wells, septic, concrete. I know people who do, and I will name them.

A land clearing service removes the pepper and palmetto and leaves the dirt where it was. We remove unwanted vegetation, then the fill comes.

Lot clearing

Lot Clearing and Acreage for New Homes in Vero Beach and Fellsmere

Indian River County's 2025 Census Building Permits Survey count is 178 single-family units, a reporting anomaly: the unincorporated county filed 12 for the year, and the real volume west of Vero Beach is far higher. These are small residential lots, pine over palmetto with a swale, and 5 acre homesites in old grove toward Fellsmere. Residential land clearing on a half acre is a day, $2,600 plus transport; a quarter-acre infill is $1,800 flat. On a lot in Vero Lake Estates last summer the swale ran full and the pad stayed dry. Low ground takes fill after site preparation; grading sends water to the swale. Property development on larger tracts prices by the acre. Homeowner or builder, the parcel number is all I need to start.

Pricing

How Much Does Land Clearing Cost in Indian River County?

Palmetto and pine flatwoods mulched in place run $1,500 to 2,500 an acre, coastal scrub $1,200 to 1,800, pepper or melaleuca adds $500 an acre, and bare dirt with the stumps out is $3,000 to 5,500. Priced first: the gopher tortoise survey, $400 to 900, and one extra day on wet flatwoods from June through September.

  • Skid steer forestry mulcher: $2,600 a day. Vero Beach is about 150 miles from Punta Gorda; transport is its own line.
  • 300-hp mulcher: $4,000 a day plus transport.

A dead grove is pushed and root raked, four days for 20 acres, plus haul. Aerials and your photos give me the free quote, and the on-site walk confirms it the day the trailer lands. Call (352) 619-3597 or send the form. Brandi texts you a scheduling window within the hour.

Ground and soil

Terrain, Soil and Vegetation Across the County

Indian River runs from the lagoon west on SR 60 to Blue Cypress Lake, wetter the whole way. The coastal ridge along US 1 carries scrub oak and sand pine on sugar sand. West of I-95 it is flatwoods soil, Oldsmar and Wabasso spodosols with a hardpan a foot down that holds water from June to October. The Sebastian River bottom is cypress hammock, and the old groves along Fellsmere Grade sit on muck near Blue Cypress Lake. Any woodland left alone will overgrow with pepper in three years, and pepper owns every fence line. Site conditions are read on foot.

Permits and rules

Land Clearing Permits, Two Districts and Scrub-Jays in Indian River County

Indian River County requires its Land Clearing permit before removing vegetation, and the cities run their own codes; the one north of Wabasso adds scrub-jay zones where clearing waits on FWS review. Agricultural land under greenbelt classification is exempt. SFWMD holds the Environmental Resource Permit for most of the county and SJRWMD takes over north of the Sebastian River; in both, clearing is not the trigger, fill and drainage changes are. Gopher tortoise: survey within 90 days, no work within 25 feet of a burrow, FWC relocation permit first. Florida scrub-jay lives in the coastal scrub, and a bald eagle nest moves us 660 feet off.

Storm debris

Storm Debris Cleanup After Ian, Nicole and Milton

Ian and Nicole in 2022 and the Milton tornadoes in 2024 left dead grove trees and pepper walls standing in the west. FEMA stopped at the public right-of-way; everything past the ditch was the owner's. Trees and branches go by the load, $700 to 1,300 per 10-yard load.

After Hurricane Ian in 2022 he spent six months on debris in Charlotte and Lee counties. FAQ

Land Clearing Questions from Indian River Property Owners

How much does land clearing cost per acre in Indian River County?

Mulched in place, palmetto and pine run $1,500 to 2,500 an acre and scrub $1,200 to 1,800; pepper adds $500, and bare dirt with stumps is $3,000 to 5,500. Expert land clearing on a dead grove is hourly dozer work plus haul.

Do I need a permit to burn cleared brush in Vero Beach?

Yes, a Florida Forest Service burn authorization, and city lots do not get one. On agricultural land toward Fellsmere a pile can sometimes burn under that authorization. If nothing leaves, the trees and brush become the mulch layer.

Can you clear heavily wooded tracts and dead groves?

Yes. Pine and oak to about 12 inches go through the 300-hp mulcher; bigger tree clearing and grove removal is dozer and root rake work. Commercial land clearing and site clearing for commercial development or master-planned communities are day-rate land clearing projects. Our crews have the equipment to handle muck and a dead grove.

Who do I call to clear land near Vero Beach?

Call (352) 619-3597 or send the form. Brandi texts you a scheduling window within the hour. Our crews have the experience and equipment to clear brush and clear land safely and efficiently on flatwoods and old grove, and equipment and expertise are the easy part. Knowing where the water goes is the land clearing service you pay for, and residential jobs go first in dry season.

What do land clearing services in Indian River usually include?

Mulching the undergrowth and palmetto, treating pepper stumps, flagging burrows, and leaving a mat that holds the sand against erosion. A pad changes the job: clearing land to dirt brings stump removal and grading with it. A half day covers clearing brush along a drainage ditch. Two days transform a dead grove edge into a homesite.
