Land Clearing and Forestry Mulching in Southeast Florida: Treasure Coast Lots, Acreage Melaleuca and Dead Groves from Vero Beach to Loxahatchee
The Treasure Coast sits on hardpan. Oldsmar flatwoods soil stands in water from June to October, melaleuca covers The Acreage, and Brazilian pepper fills every ditch. We have no yard here, so our Punta Gorda crew runs southeast Florida land clearing up SR 70 and SR 80, about 130 miles, with transport on every quote. A platted lot is one day with the skid steer, $2,600, and melaleuca or pepper adds $500 an acre. Call (352) 619-3597 or send the form. Brandi texts you a scheduling window within the hour.

Mulching Flatwoods, Coastal Scrub and Melaleuca in Southeast Florida
Slash pine over saw palmetto on the GDC lots sets the base price: $1,500 to 2,500 per acre by density. The forestry mulcher floats on the palmetto root mat where a dozer cuts through the hardpan and sits in its own pond. Coastal scrub on the ridge runs $1,200 to 1,800 and carries scrub-jay zones at Sebastian and the Savannas. Hammocks get thinned, with the mature trees flagged, and the mulch layer left behind is the erosion control through the rains.
Then the exotics. Melaleuca forest where The Acreage and Westlake were platted, Brazilian pepper on every canal bank, Australian pine along US 1. All three resprout from a live stump, so the crew treats each cut within minutes, and the $500 surcharge pays for that. Dead citrus west of Fort Pierce stands as fire fuel with twenty years of pepper undergrowth and overgrowth under it. Melaleuca drinks the swamp and Brazilian pepper eats the ditch, and neither one pays rent.
Land Clearing Services We Bring Up SR 70 and SR 80
We offer forestry mulching first. Five more land clearing services ride on the same trailer.
- Forestry mulching and land clearing on GDC lots and acreage: brush and trees, underbrush and pepper ground where they stand.
- Lot clearing for a new home, paired with fill and a swale on nearly every low lot.
- Brush clearing and brush removal on canal banks, fence lines and any overgrown lot.
- Stump grinding and tree removal for dead grove trees and pine: $4.50 per inch, $150 minimum per stump.
- Site preparation services and site prep services: land grading and fill for the pad, excavation work for the swale with an excavator, $170 an hour. Debris removal services at $700 to 1,300 per 10-yard load.
We do not pour concrete, drill wells, set septic or demolish houses; I know people who do. Insured crews on every job site, residential and commercial.
Lot Clearing for New Construction from Port St. Lucie to Westlake
A half-acre GDC lot in Port St. Lucie is one day, $2,600. A quarter-acre infill lot is $1,800 flat. St. Lucie pulled 3,468 single-family permits in 2025 by the Census Building Permits Survey, Palm Beach 2,495, and Martin 843, up 61 percent on the year. Indian River shows 178, a reporting anomaly in the Census data.
Fill follows the mulcher on almost every lot here, because hardpan ground holds water for four months. On our jobs in The Acreage the swale matters as much as the pad: Indian Trail Improvement District sets where that water goes, and I grade to it. Send the parcel ID and the site plan and you get your property cleared on a written price.
Hardpan and Exotics: Clearing Land on a Drainage-District Grid
The hardpan under Port St. Lucie, Fort Pierce and Vero Beach keeps the water on top, so the mulcher comes paired with fill and swale work on a drainage-district grid. And the exotics: The Acreage and Westlake were platted on melaleuca forest, and every melaleuca stem that is cut and not treated sends up ten more. That is the $500 an acre.
Two jobs from our side of the state size it. A 2.5-acre Brazilian pepper thicket in Port Charlotte took two days, $6,700 with the surcharge; a pepper wall in Loxahatchee prices the same way plus transport. A 20-acre dead grove in Lake Wales took four days with the big mulcher and the dozer, $21,000 plus haul; the dead groves in Indiantown run on that sheet. Miami-Dade and Broward are not on this site.
How Much Does Land Clearing Cost in Southeast Florida?
Hardpan sets the day count, exotics the surcharge, the drive the transport line.
- Skid steer forestry mulcher: $2,600 a day. Port St. Lucie is about 130 miles from Punta Gorda, so every quote here carries transport.
- 300-hp mulcher for dead groves and 10 acres and up: $4,000 a day plus transport.
- Palmetto and pine flatwoods: $1,500 to 2,500 per acre. Coastal scrub: $1,200 to 1,800.
- Melaleuca, Brazilian pepper or Australian pine: add $500 per acre.
- Full clearing to dirt with stumps out: $3,000 to 5,500 per acre. Dozer and root rake $170 an hour. Haul-off $700 to 1,300 per 10-yard load.
June through October adds one day on hardpan flatwoods, and the gopher tortoise survey, $400 to 900, comes before the price on every upland lot. Tree size and the small trees under the pine set the day count. If you need land clearing on grove land in agricultural use, the big machine earns its rate. Call (352) 619-3597 with the acreage and what grows on it. The free estimate is written from your parcel ID and photos.
Wetland, Permit and Tortoise Rules Before You Clear Your Land
SFWMD issues the Environmental Resource Permit across St. Lucie, Martin, Palm Beach and most of Indian River; north of Sebastian it is SJRWMD. Mulching a dry lot triggers neither. Filling a wetland or moving drainage does, and wet prairie on a GDC lot is wetland until a delineation says otherwise. The USACE Jacksonville District handles federal wetlands from Palm Beach Gardens.
County codes come next. Palm Beach County requires a Vegetation Removal permit for any clearing in the unincorporated county, and none before a building permit unless the land is in bona fide agriculture. St. Lucie County runs a Vegetation Removal Permit with Native Tree Protection, and Port St. Lucie issues a per-lot permit that wants the gopher tortoise survey attached. Martin County's Land Clearing permit carries the toughest wetland and preserve rules in the state. Indian River issues its own Tree Removal permit. FWC gopher tortoise rules apply on every upland lot: no land clearing work within 25 feet of a burrow without a permit. Bald eagle nests carry 660 feet. A Florida property owner holds those permits, so I read the code before I quote.
Storm Damage Clearing and Debris Removal After Nicole and Milton
Nicole in 2022 ate the dune line from Vero Beach south, and Milton in 2024 dropped tornadoes across St. Lucie and Palm Beach that laid pine flat. Storm damage goes by the load, $700 to 1,300 per 10-yard load, and FEMA pays for the public right-of-way, not for your lot. A standing dead pine is a chainsaw and a grind. A tangle is a load count; after Ian we hauled 9 loads off one acre in Punta Gorda.
Counties and Towns Where We Clear Land on the Treasure Coast
Four counties, four pages. St. Lucie (Port St. Lucie, Fort Pierce), Palm Beach (Loxahatchee, Wellington, Westlake), Martin (Indiantown) and Indian River (Vero Beach). Each page carries the county permit, the per acre price, the transport line from Punta Gorda and the land-clearing services its lots need.

Treasure Coast Land Clearing Questions
How much does land clearing in Florida's Treasure Coast counties cost per acre?
Flatwoods run $1,500 to 2,500 an acre, exotics add $500, and clearing to dirt with stumps out is $3,000 to 5,500. A platted lot goes by the day at $2,600, plus transport from Punta Gorda.
When is the best season to clear a lot here?
November to May. Hardpan flatwoods in Port St. Lucie stand in water from June into October, and wet-season work adds a day. The dry months also keep the mulch layer where the mulchers left it instead of in the swale.
Do I need a permit to clear my own land in Palm Beach or St. Lucie?
Yes. Palm Beach County requires a Vegetation Removal permit for any clearing in the unincorporated county, and St. Lucie County runs its own Vegetation Removal Permit, with Port St. Lucie adding a per-lot permit. Bona fide agriculture is the one exemption.
Can I burn the piles on my lot?
Not on a platted lot. Port St. Lucie, The Acreage and Westlake are no-burn, so it is mulch or haul. Grove removal on agricultural land in the west can still burn under a Forest Service authorization from the Okeechobee or Everglades district, pulled that morning.
Is forestry mulching or clearing land to dirt the right call on a hardpan lot?
Mulching, unless a slab is going in. Clearing land to dirt opens the hardpan and the lot holds water until fill arrives. Mulch the lot, bring fill only under the pad, and leave the root mat to drink the June rain.
How fast can a land clearing company reach Port St. Lucie or Loxahatchee?
Brandi texts a scheduling window within an hour of your form, and the Punta Gorda crew is usually on your lot inside two weeks in the dry season, transport on the quote. Call (352) 619-3597 with the parcel ID. The company is locally owned and operated, a full-service land clearing contractor for commercial and residential lots, and land management on grove acreage gets the same free estimate.
