Forestry Mulching and Land Clearing in Ormond Beach, FL: Lot, Brush and Palmetto Clearing

Ormond Beach, FL sits on two kinds of ground. Sand pine and oak scrub on the Atlantic Coastal Ridge, where Plantation Bay and Hunter's Ridge were cut, and palmetto flatwoods west of I-95 that hold water until October. Being wrong about wet ground cost me a stuck machine once. Once. Skid steer mulcher, $2,600 a day, transport billed from Ocala. Send the form or call (352) 619-3597. Forestry mulching

Forestry Mulching and Brush Clearing Near Ormond Beach

Scrub lots on the ridge mulch for $1,200 to 1,800 an acre, and that is the cheapest way to clear them. Forestry mulching is a land clearing method that uses specialized equipment to grind trees, scrub oak and vegetation into mulch, left mulched in place as a two to four inch layer.

Flatwoods west of the interstate run $1,500 to 2,500 an acre by density, and the density is palmetto. A bush hog shaves the fronds; the crowns live and overgrow the lot inside three summers. The mulcher head runs an inch below grade and takes the crowns. On the ROW we ran that same head through gallberry for FPL west of US 1; the regrowth came back as grass. Brush clearing on areas with dense understory behind a house you live in is a one-day job: we remove brush and keep the oaks.

Lot clearing

Lot Clearing for New Homes in Ormond Beach and Holly Hill

Ormond Beach pulled 292 single-family permits in 2025 in the Census Building Permits Survey, most on the ridge in Plantation Bay and Hunter's Ridge. A quarter-acre infill lot is $1,800 flat. A half-acre is one skid steer day, $2,600. The land clearing process on a scrub lot is one day, and sugar sand drains itself.

West of I-95 it is the opposite. Clearing does not drain a flatwoods lot. Fill is what will make your property hold a slab, and fill is what SJRWMD regulates. Clear in the dry season, watch one rain, fill the low corner only. Site preparation past that is your grading contractor's. Last winter on a lot in Palm Coast we mulched 1.25 acres of scrub oak and palmetto in one day for $2,600. Same ridge, same sand, same price here.

Permits

Permits, Gopher Tortoises and Drainage Before You Clear Land in Ormond Beach

The Ormond Beach tree code requires a permit before clearing a building lot, and Volusia County Tree Preservation protects historic trees at 36 inches DBH and up. Gopher tortoise is the second gate: FWC allows no work within 25 feet of a burrow without a permit, and ridge scrub is full of them. Our crew ropes the 25-foot line first. Florida scrub-jay nests in this scrub too. Bald eagle nests carry a 660-foot buffer.

Water is the third. SJRWMD issues the Environmental Resource Permit, and clearing does not trigger it. Fill or a drainage change does, and anything near the Tomoka gets a wetland line first. On the ROW we ran corridor through those flatwoods for two wet seasons; the mulcher floated and the dozers waited. Call Sunshine 811 before grubbing so the gas pipeline and FPL feeders get marked.

FAQ

Land Clearing FAQs for Ormond Beach Lot Owners

How much does land clearing cost in Ormond Beach in 2026?

$1,800 for a quarter-acre infill lot and $2,600 for a half-acre, one skid steer day, transport billed. Scrub acreage runs $1,200 to 1,800 an acre, palmetto flatwoods $1,500 to 2,500. Full clearing to dirt with stumps is $3,000 to 5,500 an acre.

Do I need a permit to burn cleared brush?

Yes. Every pile needs a Florida Forest Service open burning authorization, and platted lots inside the city do not get one. That is why we mulch: no pile, no smoke, no haul bill. If you want bare dirt, haul-off is $700 to 1,300 per 10-yard load.

Can you remove large trees and stumps during land clearing?

Yes. Stems to about 8 inches go through the mulcher; bigger slash pine and live oak get cut and hauled by the load. Each stump is ground at $4.50 per inch of diameter, $150 minimum. Historic trees at 36 inches and up stay unless the county signs off.

How soon can you get a mulcher here?

Brandi texts a scheduling window within an hour of the form, and in dry season the trailer rolls from Ocala inside the week. Call (352) 619-3597 if your closing date is set. We pair your lot with a neighbor's when we can and split the transport.
