Forestry Mulching and Land Clearing in Wakulla County, FL: Crawfordville, Panacea, Sopchoppy

Wakulla County is cutover slash pine with titi in the low ground, longleaf sandhill along US 319, and the Apalachicola National Forest on three sides of town. Ten years of co-op corridors, and this one is the wettest corridor I know. We serve the county from Ocala, about 170 miles, so transport is a quoted line and the 300-hp mulcher is $4,000 a day plus it. We cleared 10 acres here in two days. Send the form or call (352) 619-3597. Brandi texts you a scheduling window within the hour.

Forestry mulching

Forestry Mulching in Wakulla County: Cutover Pine, Titi and Sandhill

Forestry mulching does nearly all land clearing in Wakulla County because cutover is half stumps and a dozer finds every one of them. The mulcher grinds slash pine regrowth, gallberry, titi and wax myrtle into a mulch mat about three inches deep, shaves the old stubs flush and leaves the roots in the sand. On the 10 acre job here we mulched the understory under the pines the owner kept, two days on the big machine, and he had pasture by spring. Wakulla ground is sand on top of water on top of limestone, and the order changes after a storm. Our mulching services reclaim overgrown land to 12-inch stems.

Lot clearing

Lot Clearing and Acreage for New Homes in Crawfordville

Wakulla County's builders pulled 518 single-family permits in 2025 by the Census Building Permits Survey, up 11 percent, almost all of it Tallahassee commuters buying around Crawfordville and Wakulla Station. These are small residential lots in cutover pine or 5 acre homesites at the forest edge. Residential land clearing on a half acre is a day, $2,600 plus transport; a quarter-acre infill is $1,800 flat. On a parcel off US 98 last fall the flatwoods corner held water until November. Low ground takes fill after site preparation, and grading sends the water to the ditch. Property development on larger tracts prices by the acre. Homeowner or builder, send the parcel number.

Ground and soil

Terrain, Soil and Vegetation Across the County

Wakulla is a limestone shelf with a few feet of sand on it, and the water is never far down. Along US 319 the uplands are longleaf and wiregrass sandhill on deep sand, karst underneath. Most of the county is flatwoods soil, a spodosol hardpan under slash pine, gallberry and titi that stands in water by July. The Wakulla River and St. Marks River bottoms are cypress-gum and cabbage palm, wet all year, and the coast goes to salt marsh. The private woodland between the forest tracts is cutover that will overgrow in three summers. Vines take the fence line. Site conditions get checked on foot.

Permits and rules

Development Orders, the Springs Zone and Protected Species in Wakulla County

The county ties clearing to a development order and keeps tree rules light, but the Wakulla Springs protection zone adds review for lots near Wakulla Springs and the river. Silviculture on agricultural land is exempt under FS 403.927. NWFWMD holds the Environmental Resource Permit; clearing is not the trigger, fill and drainage changes are. Gopher tortoise on sandhill: survey within 90 days, no work within 25 feet of a burrow, FWC relocation permit before removing vegetation. Red-cockaded woodpecker lives in the national forest longleaf, and a bald eagle nest on the St. Marks moves us 660 feet off.

Storm debris

Storm Debris Cleanup in the Big Bend

Idalia in 2023 and Helene in 2024 came ashore in the Big Bend and laid slash pine across lots from the coast to the forest edge. FEMA took the public right-of-way, and the lot behind the swale stayed your problem. Trees and branches go by the load, $700 to 1,300 per 10-yard load. After Ian I learned to count the brown crowns before June.

FAQ

Land Clearing Questions from Wakulla Property Owners

How much does land clearing cost per acre in Wakulla County?

$1,500 to 2,500 an acre for cutover pine mulched in place, $1,200 to 1,800 on open sandhill, $3,000 to 5,500 to bare dirt with stumps. Expert land clearing on big tracts is big-mulcher work at $4,000 a day.

Do I need a permit to burn cleared brush in Crawfordville?

Yes, a Florida Forest Service burn authorization, and the subdivisions off US 319 do not get one. On acreage toward Sopchoppy a pile can often burn under that authorization. Skip the haul and the trees and brush stay where they fell, as mulch.

Can you clear heavily wooded cutover with stumps in it?

Yes. The 300-hp mulcher takes pine and oak to about 12 inches and shaves the old stubs; tree clearing above that is the dozer and root rake. Commercial land clearing, site clearing for commercial development, master-planned communities: those land clearing projects price by the day. Our crews have the equipment to handle it.

Who do I call to clear land near Crawfordville?

Call (352) 619-3597 or send the form; Brandi texts you a scheduling window within the hour. Our crews bring the experience and equipment to clear brush and clear land safely and efficiently on sand and in sloughs. Equipment and expertise are the easy part; knowing where the water goes is the land clearing service you pay for. Residential jobs get the first dry-season dates.

What do land clearing services in Wakulla usually include?

Mulching the undergrowth and small pine, flagging burrows, and leaving a mat that holds the sand against erosion. Take clearing land one step further to a pad and stump removal and grading go on the ticket. Figure a half day for clearing brush along a drainage ditch. Two days transform a cutover tract into a homesite.
