Forestry Mulching and Land Clearing in Brevard County, FL: Palm Bay, Titusville, Melbourne

Brevard is two kinds of ground. Scrub and sandhill on the coastal ridge along US 1, flatwoods and marsh toward the St. Johns. Palm Bay alone pulled 1,908 single-family permits last year, nearly all on platted GDC lots. Our crews come down from Ocala, so the quote carries a transport line. Skid steer mulcher, $2,600 a day. Send the form or call (352) 619-3597. Brandi texts you a scheduling window within the hour.

Forestry mulching

Forestry Mulching in Brevard County: Palmetto, Scrub and Flatwoods Cut in Place

Forestry mulching on a GDC lot takes saw palmetto, slash pine and the pepper wall along the canal and leaves a mulch layer three inches deep. The sand stays covered, so the first summer storm does not carry it into the swale as erosion. A bush hog shears fronds and leaves the root mat alive. The mulcher grinds the crown with the stem. Brazilian pepper gets a cut-stump treatment within minutes of the cut, or five shoots come up for every one we took. Our mulching services reclaim overgrown land up to 8-inch stems in one pass. Palmetto on the Space Coast grows like it has a launch window to make.

Services

Land Clearing Services Available in Brevard County

Professional land clearing services in Brevard County run from a quarter-acre lot to 40 acres of agricultural land west of I-95, residential and commercial.

  • Forestry mulching of pine and hardwood undergrowth, mulch left on the ground.
  • Lot clearing and site prep for the pad, the drive and the drain field.
  • Brush clearing and fence line underbrushing on pasture gone to wax myrtle.
  • Selective clearing: pepper and dead pine out, the live oak hammock kept.
  • Tree clearing, tree removal and stump grinding, $4.50 per inch, $150 minimum.
  • Dirt work with the dozer: root rake, grading, pond excavation, $170 an hour.

A land clearing service removes what is in the way. We remove unwanted vegetation and leave the woodland. Not our work services: concrete, wells, septic, demolition. I know people who do.

Lot clearing

Lot and Acreage Clearing for New Homes in Palm Bay, Titusville and Melbourne

Brevard County's builders pulled 3,376 single-family permits in 2025 by the Census Building Permits Survey, down 13 percent, and Palm Bay carried more than half. Residential land clearing here is small residential lots on the GDC grid: a half acre is one day, $2,600, a quarter-acre infill lot is $1,800 flat. Near Lake Washington and north of Mims the residential jobs turn into 2 to 10 acre homesites. Low lots west of I-95 take fill after site preparation, and the fill is what SJRWMD permits, not the clearing. A homeowner, property development in master-planned communities around Viera, commercial development on commercial land along US 1: same insured crews. Two days transform a palmetto acre into a dry pad.

Pricing

How Much Does Land Clearing Cost in Brevard County?

$2,600 a day on the skid steer mulcher and $4,000 a day on the 300-hp machine, plus transport from Ocala, because Brevard sits past our 75-mile circle. Priced first: the gopher tortoise survey, $400 to 900, and the wet-season day, one extra on wet flatwoods June through September.

  • Palmetto and pine flatwoods mulching: $1,500 to 2,500 an acre by density.
  • Oak scrub and sandhill on the coastal ridge: $1,200 to 1,800 an acre.
  • Brazilian pepper walls along the canals: add $500 an acre.
  • Full clearing to dirt with stumps: $3,000 to 5,500 an acre.
  • Bush hogging on pasture: $65 to 95 an acre, $450 minimum.
  • Haul-off: $700 to 1,300 per 10-yard load.

The closest comparison is up I-95: a 1.25-acre lot in Palm Coast, scrub oak and palmetto, one day, $2,600. A GDC lot here reads the same. Expert land clearing is a number in writing before the trailer leaves the yard. Call (352) 619-3597 or send the form for a free quote.

Ground and soil

Terrain, Soil and Vegetation Across Brevard County

Brevard runs in strips. The coastal ridge along US 1 is sugar sand, scrub oak and sand pine, and it drains before you finish the walk. West of I-95 the ground drops into mesic flatwoods, slash pine over palmetto and gallberry on flatwoods soil, a spodosol with a hardpan that holds water June to September. Toward the St. Johns River marsh it goes to muck. A dozer on muck in August sinks to the belly pan; the mulcher floats on its tracks. Site conditions pick the machine and the day count. Lots here overgrow in three years, pepper first.

Permits and rules

Land Clearing Permits, Wetlands and Protected Species Before You Clear in Brevard

The Brevard County Land Clearing permit is required before any clearing on 1 acre or more, and Palm Bay issues its own land clearing permit per lot. Florida scrub-jay stops work here: Palm Bay and Mims sit in FWS Habitat Conservation Plan zones, and a scrub lot inside one needs clearance before a machine unloads. FWC gopher tortoise rules apply on every upland lot: no work within 25 feet of a burrow, relocation permit if burrows turn up. Bald eagle nests carry a 660-foot buffer. SJRWMD holds the Environmental Resource Permit, and clearing is not the trigger; wetland fill or a drainage change is. Piles need a Florida Forest Service burn authorization, which a platted lot will not get.

Storm debris

Storm Debris Cleanup After Ian, Nicole and Milton

Ian flooded the St. Johns in 2022, Nicole hit the beaches that November, and Milton in 2024 laid oak and pine across the county. Trees and branches go by the load, $700 to 1,300 per 10-yard load, 8 to 10 loads on a wooded acre. FEMA covers the public right-of-way only. After Ian I ran debris crews in Charlotte and Lee for six months. The brown crowns left standing were the next blowdown.

FAQ

Land Clearing Questions from Brevard County Property Owners

How much does land clearing cost in Brevard County?

A half-acre GDC lot is one day on the skid steer, $2,600, plus transport from Ocala. Flatwoods mulch at $1,500 to 2,500 an acre, coastal scrub at $1,200 to 1,800, clearing to dirt with stumps $3,000 to 5,500.

Do I need a permit to clear land in Brevard?

Yes at 1 acre or more: the county Land Clearing permit comes first, and Palm Bay requires its own on every lot. Agricultural land under greenbelt classification is exempt. Scrub lots in the FWS zones need scrub-jay clearance before clearing brush.

Can I burn cleared brush in Palm Bay?

Almost never on a platted lot. Every pile needs a daily Florida Forest Service burn authorization, and the city grid does not qualify. Forestry mulching leaves the trees and brush as mulch on the sand. No pile, no haul truck.

Can you clear heavily wooded Brevard County acreage?

Yes. The 300-hp mulcher takes pine and oak to about 12 inches; above that the dozer with root rake does the wood. On the ROW we ran that pairing on every corridor west of I-95. Commercial land clearing and site clearing go by the day on the big machine, $4,000 plus transport.

How do I get an estimate for land clearing in Brevard?

Call (352) 619-3597 or send the form; Brandi texts you a scheduling window within an hour. Brevard sits past our 75-mile circle, so the land clearing service estimate carries a transport line I quote before the day rate.
