Forestry Mulching in Manatee County: Pasture Edges and Flatwoods
Most land clearing in Manatee County starts as forestry mulching on old pasture going back to palmetto and wax myrtle. The mulcher chews slash pine, palmetto, gallberry and the Brazilian pepper along the fence line into a mulch mat about three inches deep. The mat stops erosion in the first summer downpour, and the tracks float where a dozer sinks to the belly pan. A bush hog leaves the palmetto crown; the mulcher takes it. Pepper and melaleuca get cut-stump treatment within minutes of the cut. Our mulching services reclaim overgrown land at stems to 8 inches with the skid steer. Hurricane season is the one appointment in Florida nobody has to book.
Land Clearing Services Available in Manatee County
Professional land clearing services in Manatee County, from a Parrish infill lot to 40 acres of agricultural land east of Myakka City, residential and commercial.
- Forestry mulching of palmetto, pine and hardwood undergrowth, left in place as mulch.
- Lot clearing and site prep for the pad, the drive and the drain field.
- Brush clearing and underbrushing where you keep the live oaks.
- Selective clearing: dead pines and pepper out, shade trees in.
- Tree clearing with stump grinding at $4.50 per inch, $150 minimum.
- Not our work services: pond excavation, septic, wells, concrete. I know people who do.
A land clearing service removes what blocks the pad and leaves what holds the sand. We remove unwanted vegetation and nothing else.
Lot Clearing and Acreage for New Homes in Parrish and East Manatee
Manatee County's builders pulled 7,014 single-family permits in 2025 by the Census Building Permits Survey, up 25 percent. Parrish and the US 301 corridor carry most of it on county permits. Lakewood Ranch runs through its own Stewardship District review. Residential land clearing here splits two ways. Small residential lots in Parrish and Ellenton are a day: half acre, $2,600; quarter-acre infill, $1,800 flat. Property development on the 5 and 10 acre tracts along SR 64 is per acre; low flatwoods take fill after site preparation, with grading toward the ditch. Two dry days transform a palmetto tract into a buildable pad. Homeowner or builder, send the survey.
How Much Does Land Clearing Cost in Manatee County?
$1,500 to 2,500 an acre for palmetto and pine flatwoods, $3,000 to 5,500 to bare dirt with stumps. Before any of that: the gopher tortoise survey, $400 to 900, and the wet-season day, one extra on muck from June through September.
- Skid steer forestry mulcher: $2,600 a day, transport included within 75 miles of Punta Gorda. North of the Manatee River we add a transport line.
- 300-hp mulcher: $4,000 a day plus transport.
- Brazilian pepper or melaleuca: add $500 an acre.
- Dirt work, grubbing and root rake with the dozer: $170 an hour.
- Haul-off: $700 to 1,300 per 10-yard load.
Same flatwoods, one county south: we cleared 5 acres in Golden Gate Estates in two days for $5,200 with three tortoise burrows flagged. The free quote is an on-site estimate. Call (352) 619-3597 or send the form. Brandi texts you a scheduling window within the hour.
Terrain, Soil and Vegetation Across Manatee County
West of I-75 Manatee is coastal flatwoods and old tomato fields; east of it sandhill drops into the Myakka River headwaters. Flatwoods soil here is Myakka spodosol, a hardpan 18 inches down that holds water June to October. Cypress strands follow Lake Manatee and the Manatee River. Near Lake Manatee the woodland is slash pine over palmetto and gallberry; around Myakka City it is bahiagrass pasture that will overgrow with wax myrtle and pepper in five years once the mowing stops. Sugar sand on the SR 64 ridge drains fast. I read site conditions before I quote the days.
Tree Removal Permits and Protected Species in Manatee County
Unincorporated Manatee needs a county land clearing and tree permit before removing vegetation on most parcels; the Stewardship District east of I-75 adds its own review. Gopher tortoise burrows sit on every dry lot: survey within 90 days, no work within 25 feet of a burrow, FWC relocation permit if the agent finds any. Florida scrub-jay turns up in east Manatee scrub, which brings FWS consultation. Bald eagle nests get a 660-foot buffer. SWFWMD holds the Environmental Resource Permit here, and clearing alone does not trigger it. Fill in a wet spot or a change in drainage does. On our jobs in Manatee the tortoise agent is the schedule, not the mulcher.
Storm Debris Cleanup After Milton
Milton came ashore in October 2024 and put slash pines and live oak limbs across lots from Parrish to Myakka City. FEMA cleared public right-of-way; the lot is the owner's. We haul by the load, $700 to 1,300 per 10-yard load, trees and branches cut to length first. Standing dead pine mulches fine and costs less than a haul. Count the dead crowns before next June.

Land Clearing Questions from Manatee Property Owners
How much does land clearing cost per acre in Manatee County?
$1,500 to 2,500 an acre for pine and palmetto flatwoods mulched in place, $3,000 to 5,500 to bare dirt with stumps. A half-acre Parrish lot is one day, $2,600. Expert land clearing is priced after a walk, never off an aerial.
Do I need a permit to burn cleared brush in Parrish?
On a platted lot, no burning. Everywhere else a pile needs a Florida Forest Service burn authorization, issued daily. On east Manatee acreage the trees and brush can sometimes burn under that authorization; in Parrish they get mulched or hauled, and the wood stays as mulch.
How long do land clearing projects take?
A half-acre lot is one day, 2.5 acres of flatwoods two days, 10 acres with stumps about five. Land clearing projects wait longer on the county permit and the tortoise agent than on our crews.
Can you clear heavily wooded tracts and commercial land?
Yes. The 300-hp mulcher handles pine and oak to about 12 inches, and the dozer handles tree clearing above that. On the ROW we ran that pairing through cypress strands on every co-op corridor. Commercial land clearing and site clearing for commercial development or master-planned communities run by the day, $4,000 plus transport.
Who do I call to clear land in Manatee?
Call (352) 619-3597 or send the form; Brandi texts you a scheduling window within the hour. Our crews have the experience and equipment to handle clearing brush and clearing land safely and efficiently on wet flatwoods. Equipment and expertise get the machine to the lot; the land clearing service you pay for is knowing where the water goes. When the ground dries out, residential jobs are first on the calendar.
