Forestry mulching

Forestry Mulching in Collier County: Melaleuca, Pepper and Palmetto

Forestry mulching does the land clearing in Collier County that haul trucks cannot afford to: melaleuca stands and pepper walls go into a mulch mat where they grew. The skid steer grinds palmetto, slash pine and cabbage palm to 8 inches; the 300-hp machine takes melaleuca to 12. Every exotic cut gets cut-stump treatment within minutes or it resprouts from the collar by the next wet season. The mat holds the sand against erosion, and the tracks float over flatwoods soil a dozer would rut. Our mulching services reclaim overgrown land along the fence line. Caprock is where mulcher teeth go to die.

Services

Land Clearing Services Available in Collier County

Professional land clearing services in Collier County, from a coastal infill lot to agricultural land out Immokalee Road, residential and commercial.

  • Forestry mulching of pine and hardwood undergrowth and exotic thickets, mulch left in place.
  • Lot clearing and site prep for pad, driveway and drain field.
  • Brush clearing and underbrushing where the slash pines stay.
  • Selective clearing: exotics out, native pine left for the VRP preserve count.
  • Tree removal and stump grinding, $4.50 per inch, $150 minimum.
  • Not among our work services: pond excavation, septic, wells, concrete. I know people who do.

A land clearing service removes the exotics and keeps the natives. We remove unwanted vegetation and the county is happier for it.

Lot clearing

Lot Clearing and Acreage for New Homes in Golden Gate Estates, Naples and Ave Maria

Collier County's builders pulled 1,945 single-family permits in 2025 by the Census Building Permits Survey. The Estates issue no permits, so the unincorporated count is the proxy. Residential land clearing here is rarely small residential lots; it is a 1.25, 2.5 or 5 acre tract with a pad site, a driveway and a drain field. A half-acre pad on a wet tract is one day, $2,600; the full tract runs by the acre. Property development in Ave Maria runs by the acre. Fill follows site preparation on every low tract, and the grading decides whether the water drains to the canal or sits under the slab. Two days transform 5 acres of palmetto into a dry homesite. Homeowner or builder, send the folio number.

Pricing

Priced first: the gopher tortoise survey, $400 to 900, and the wet-season day, one extra on muck from June through September.

  • Skid steer forestry mulcher: $2,600 a day, transport included within 75 miles of Punta Gorda. The Estates qualify; Immokalee is at the edge.
  • 300-hp mulcher: $4,000 a day plus transport.

Ground and soil

Terrain, Soil and Vegetation Across Collier County

Collier is the flattest ground I work. Immokalee and Myakka spodosols, flatwoods soil with a hardpan, and caprock 20 to 40 inches under it, so the rain has nowhere to go from June to October. Golden Gate Boulevard runs through hydric flatwoods and cypress strands. Near Lake Trafford and out Immokalee Road the woodland is slash pine over palmetto with melaleuca where the old ditches ran, and Corkscrew Swamp marks the cypress line. The Cocohatchee River drains the coast. Any Estates tract left alone will overgrow with melaleuca and pepper inside five years. I read site conditions in the wet season when I can.

Permits and rules

Collier VRP, Wetlands and Protected Species Before You Clear

Collier County requires a Vegetation Removal Permit, the VRP, before removing vegetation in Golden Gate Estates, and an Agricultural Clearing permit on ag land. The VRP carries a preserve requirement and an exotic removal condition. Gopher tortoise: survey within 90 days, no work within 25 feet of a burrow, FWC relocation permit if any turn up. Florida panther consultation hits larger tracts, and Ave Maria sits in the Panther Focus Area. Bald eagle: 660-foot nest buffer. SFWMD holds the Environmental Resource Permit; clearing is not the trigger, fill and drainage changes are. On our jobs in the Estates the VRP sets the start date.

Storm debris

Storm Debris Cleanup After Irma and Ian

Irma in 2017 and Ian in 2022 both left Collier with standing dead slash pine and downed Australian pine. FEMA cleared public right-of-way; the tract was the owner's. Trees and branches go by the load, $700 to 1,300 per 10-yard load, and a 2.5-acre Estates tract after Ian ran 6 to 12 loads. Dead pine still standing mulches for less. Count the brown crowns before June.

Marc Pellegrino, 44, owns Pellegrino Land Works and runs it from Ocala in Marion County, with a second crew in Punta Gorda. He spent 10 years as a right-of-way clearing crew lead for a utility contractor on FPL and co-op corridors across Florida, flatwoods to cypress strands to muck, and started his own outfit in 2012. After Hurricane Ian in 2022 he spent six months on debris in Charlotte and Lee counties. He knows the FWC gopher tortoise rule, the eagle nest buffer and the water management district permit thresholds by heart. Brandi runs the office and texts every scheduling window.

FAQ

Land Clearing Questions from Collier Property Owners

How much does land clearing cost per acre in Collier County?

$1,500 to 2,500 an acre for palmetto and pine mulched in place, $500 more where melaleuca or pepper has taken over, $3,000 to 5,500 to bare dirt with stumps. Expert land clearing on a 5-acre Estates tract came to $5,200 in two days.

Do I need a permit to burn cleared brush in Golden Gate Estates?

Yes, a daily Florida Forest Service burn authorization, and the Estates rarely get one for clearing piles. Mulching keeps the trees and brush on the tract as mulch; melaleuca wood hauls out at $700 to 1,300 a load when the owner wants it gone.

How long do land clearing projects take?

Two days for 5 acres of palmetto and pine, three to four with heavy melaleuca, five or more to bare dirt with stumps on caprock. Land clearing projects wait longer on the VRP than on our crews.

Can you clear heavily wooded tracts and commercial land?

Yes. The 300-hp mulcher handles melaleuca and pine to about 12 inches, and tree clearing above that is the dozer with root rake. On the ROW we ran that pairing through cypress strands on every co-op corridor. Commercial land clearing and site clearing for commercial development or master-planned communities run by the day, $4,000 plus transport.

Who do I call to clear land in Collier?

Call (352) 619-3597 or send the form; Brandi texts you a scheduling window within the hour. Our crews have the experience and equipment to handle clearing brush and clearing land safely and efficiently on caprock and wet flatwoods. Equipment and expertise get the machine to the lot; the land clearing service you pay for is knowing where the water goes. Dry-season dates go to residential jobs before anything else.
