Forestry Mulching and Land Clearing in Sarasota County, FL: North Port, Venice, Englewood
Sarasota County is two counties: the coast west of I-75, and the flatwoods east of it where North Port and Englewood keep building. The east is pine over palmetto on a hardpan that fills by July. Punta Gorda is 20 minutes from North Port, so the skid steer mulcher comes at $2,600 a day, transport included. I've cleared flatwoods since 2012. Send the form or call (352) 619-3597. Forestry Mulching in Sarasota County: GDC Lots Done in a Day
Forestry mulching is how the land clearing in Sarasota County gets done on a quarter-acre GDC lot: one machine, one day, nothing hauled. The skid steer mulcher turns slash pine, saw palmetto and gallberry into a mulch blanket three inches deep that keeps the sugar sand off the street and erosion down. The root mat stays, so the lot does not turn to soup in the first June storm. Brazilian pepper along the ditch and the fence line gets cut-stump treatment within minutes, because pepper left untreated is back in a year. Our mulching services reclaim overgrown land at stems to 8 inches. Mosquitoes bill by the hour here too.
Land Clearing Services Available in Sarasota County
Professional land clearing services in Sarasota County cover platted lots and agricultural land east of River Road, residential and commercial.
- Forestry mulching of pine and hardwood undergrowth, mulch left in place.
- Lot clearing and site prep for the pad, driveway and drain field.
- Brush clearing and underbrushing under the oaks that stay.
- Selective clearing: pepper and dead pine out, grand trees untouched.
- Tree removal and stump grinding, $4.50 per inch, $150 minimum per stump.
- Not on our list of work services: pond excavation, septic, wells, concrete. I know people who do.
A land clearing service removes what blocks the slab and leaves what holds the sand. We remove unwanted vegetation; the live oak stays.
Lot Clearing and Acreage for New Homes in North Port, Venice and Englewood
Sarasota County's builders pulled 4,283 single-family permits in 2025 by the Census Building Permits Survey, and North Port alone pulled about 1,910. Nearly all of those are small residential lots on the old GDC grid, pine and palmetto, a swale out front. Residential land clearing on one is a flat day: $2,600 for a half acre, $1,800 for a quarter-acre infill. Wellen Park and the east side run as property development by the acre. Low lots take fill after site preparation; the grading has to send water to the swale, not the neighbor's slab. One dry day can transform a GDC lot into a pad. Homeowner or builder, send the survey and the lot number.
How Much Does Land Clearing Cost in Sarasota County?
$1,500 to 2,500 an acre for pine and palmetto flatwoods by density, $3,000 to 5,500 an acre to bare dirt with stumps. Priced before the per-acre number: a gopher tortoise survey, $400 to 900, and the wet-season day, one extra on muck from June through September.
- Skid steer forestry mulcher: $2,600 a day, transport included within 75 miles of Punta Gorda. All of Sarasota qualifies.
- 300-hp mulcher: $4,000 a day plus transport.
- Brazilian pepper or melaleuca thickets: add $500 an acre.
- Dirt work, grubbing and root rake with the dozer: $170 an hour.
- Haul-off: $700 to 1,300 per 10-yard load.
Across the county line, 2.5 acres of Brazilian pepper thicket in Port Charlotte took two days and $6,700 including the pepper surcharge. The free quote is an on-site estimate. Call (352) 619-3597 or send the form. Brandi texts you a scheduling window within the hour.
Terrain, Soil and Vegetation Across Sarasota County
East of I-75 the ground is hydric flatwoods on Myakka spodosol, the flatwoods soil with a hardpan that stands in water June to October. The Myakka River runs down the middle of the county through Myakka River State Park, and near Upper Myakka Lake the woodland turns to cabbage palm hammock and marsh. The city canals in North Port drop the water table a foot or two, which is why a mulcher can work there in August when the same lot in Englewood is soup. A GDC lot left alone will overgrow with pepper in three years. Along US 41 the sand is deeper and drains. I read site conditions on the walk.
Tree Protection Rules and Protected Species in Sarasota County
Sarasota County protects grand trees and requires an Earthmoving permit before you move dirt; North Port adds its own Tree Protection Code per lot. Removing vegetation on a GDC lot starts with a tree survey. Gopher tortoise: survey within 90 days, no work within 25 feet of a burrow, FWC relocation permit if any turn up, and most dry lots have them. Florida scrub-jay zones on the east side bring FWS consultation. Bald eagle: 660-foot nest buffer. SWFWMD issues the Environmental Resource Permit, and clearing is not the trigger: fill and drainage changes are. On our jobs there the tree survey and tortoise survey run the same week.
Storm Debris Cleanup After Ian and Milton
Ian in 2022 hit North Port and Englewood hard; Milton in 2024 came back for the Gulf side. FEMA clears public right-of-way, and the lot is yours. Trees and branches go by the load: $700 to 1,300 per 10-yard load, cut to length first. Dead slash pine mulches in place for less than a haul. Count the brown crowns before June and I count the loads.

Land Clearing Questions from Sarasota Property Owners
How much does land clearing cost per acre in Sarasota County?
$1,500 to 2,500 an acre for pine and palmetto mulched in place, $3,000 to 5,500 to bare dirt with stumps. A quarter-acre North Port lot is $1,800 flat, a half acre $2,600. Expert land clearing with a pepper wall adds $500 an acre.
Do I need a permit to burn cleared brush in North Port?
You will not get one. Platted lots are no-burn, and any pile anywhere needs a daily Florida Forest Service burn authorization. The trees and brush get mulched in place or hauled; the wood stays as mulch and the city stays happy.
How long do land clearing projects take?
One day for a GDC lot, two days for 2.5 acres of flatwoods, five days for 10 acres with stumps. Land clearing projects wait longer on the city tree permit than on our crews.
Can you clear heavily wooded tracts and commercial land?
Yes. The 300-hp mulcher takes pine and oak to about 12 inches; tree clearing above that is the dozer with root rake. On the ROW we ran that pairing through cypress strands on one co-op corridor after another. Commercial land clearing and site clearing for commercial development or master-planned communities run by the day, $4,000 plus transport.
Who do I call to clear land here?
Call (352) 619-3597 or send the form; Brandi texts you a scheduling window within the hour. Our crews have the experience and equipment to handle clearing brush and clearing land safely and efficiently on wet flatwoods. Equipment and expertise come standard; knowing where the water goes is the land clearing service you pay for. Residential jobs come first in dry season.
